A morning closet is a great way to convert a hallway closet, usually on the second floor, into a mini-kitchen (figure A), so that first cup of coffee is convenient in the morning and other drinks and snacks are close by for family all day long.

    • A few measurements of the closet will help with the transformation.

    • The first decision is how big you want to make the countertop.

    • Cutting a hole in the countertop lets you hide the coffee pot cord.

    • A mini fridge underneath stores water, juices and cream.

    • If there’s enough room, a prefab cabinet above will provide storage or try pantry style shelves with pullout baskets.

    • These will store other necessities like coffee and filters, plus morning snacks (figure B)
      .
    • Stemware for beverages like iced tea and soda line up neatly in under shelf racks (figure C).

    • A canister is another great way to hold all kinds of utensils.

    • A glass paneled French door freshens up the look of the closet.

    • All the cords can be plugged into a power strip with a surge protector by running an extension cord to an outside socket. Hiding the cord is easy with a plastic wire mold to match your foot molding.

    • A morning closet is a great way to add convenience to your whole day.

    • Mini kitchens are popping up everywhere. Consider putting one in your master suite.

    • Put a trash can in the morning closet to make clean up a snap.
